The Lead CDL-A Driver is responsible for overseeing a team of drivers, ensuring timely deliveries, maintaining the highest safety standards, and acting as a liaison between the transportation department and management to ensure smooth operations.
Responsibilities:
Demonstrate safety as a core value and establish a safe work environment by leading the team to safe driving behaviors.
Provide leadership and mentorship to a team of drivers, including regular performance evaluations and coaching when needed.
Collaborate with dispatch on driver schedules to plan efficient delivery routes that consider time constraints and customer requirements.
Guide the team to exceed their pay for performance targets in all areas of safety, quality, productivity, etc.
Oversee the quality and condition of deliveries, promptly addressing discrepancies or issues as they arise.
Ensure drivers maintain accurate records of deliveries, driver logs, and vehicle maintenance schedules to assure compliance.
Be on-call to handle any emergency situations or issues that may arise during deliveries, displaying quick thinking and efficient problem-solving skills.
Ensure any defects or concerns with equipment are reported in a timely manner.
Maneuver tractors and trailers into loading or unloading positions.
Transport equipment to local service center(s) to perform preventative maintenance.
Retain all paperwork, including BOL’s, POD’s, and fuel/toll receipts.
Comply with all DOT and FMCSA rules and regulations (e.
g.
size, weight, route designations, parking, and break periods) along with all company policies and procedures.
Immediately report any accidents or violations to appropriate company personnel.

Qualifications:
Commercial Driver’s License with a clean driving record.
Previous experience in a leadership or supervisory role preferred.
Strong knowledge of safety procedures and regulations.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to handle emergency situations calmly and efficiently.
Flexibility with working hours and on-call availability.
The ability to work weekends from time to time based on business needs.
